본 과목의 목적은 공과대 학부 과정 학생들을 대상으로 신제품, 신서비스의 개발과 어려운 공학적 문제의 해결을 위한 창의적 사고 기법들을 소개하고, 이를 응용하는 능력을 배양시키는 데 있다. Brainstorming, mind mapping, lateral thinking, TRIZ, attribute listing and morphological analysis, transformation theory, physical stress reduction principles, portability design principles 등의 기법을 다루게 된다. 수강생들은 다수의 설계 및 기획 문제를 과제로서 해결하고 그룹 프로젝트를 수행함으로써, 습득한 지식을 실제 문제 해결에 응용하는 능력을 배양하게 된다.
