The core of industrial engineering lies in establishing strategic objectives that endure through changing times and designing optimal systems to achieve them.

Industrial engineering is the application of mathematical and scientific techniques to solve process-wide problems of planning, design, operation, analysis, evaluation and integration in a wide range of industries, including manufacturing, services, information, communications, finance, healthcare, public utilities and defense.

Industrial engineering uses and fuses unique techniques such as management science (optimization, applied statistics), information systems, ergonomics, production management, service quality management and methodologies from various adjacent disciplines such as mathematics, statistics, computer science, engineering, humanities, economics and management to approach a given problem from a comprehensive and systematic perspective.

Industrial engineering has changed and expanded in response to technological advances and market trends. Management decision making based on big data analysis, intelligent internet and mobile services, social network analysis, fintech system design and operation, investment risk management and financial product design, emotional product development, high-tech marketing and technology trend analysis are some of the major research areas in industrial engineering.
